An excursion to our Durchgangalm in Rauris can give you an unforgettable experience. Our alpine hut is located at 1742 m. by the national park of Hohe Tauern, at the foot of Sonnblick, which is a hiking paradise for the whole family. Hiking from Zittelhaus to Rauris:
There´s a way that leads out of the parking place Lenzanger to the house of nature lover Kolm Saigurn, where the way towards the house of nature lover Neubau starts. Walking time to Neubau: ca. 1 hour and a half. From Neubau there´s a well-blazed trail to the Rojacher hut. After the Rojacher hut there´s two possibilities to hike to the Sonnblick: either going on the snow-free ridge or through the glacier, that runs parallel to the ridge. Total walking time: ca. 4,5 hours.
At the end of the Hüttwinkl valley lies the “Rauriser Urwald”. Like a fairy-wood covered with spruces and a 1000 years old stone pine, it lies in the middle of a mountain´s scenery.
Huge boulders overgrown with small peaks, alternately with numerous small puddles and swampy ponds. This characteristic landscape was originated due to a landslide, after the fall of the last ice age glacier. A walk here allows, not only on sunny days, an unforgettable experience in the nature.
The 17th and 18th centuries was the era of gold panning. As a result of the decline of the mining activity, former miners tried their luck on it. Particularly at river bends or below the rapids there is an high density of gold flakes, grains and other different minerals.
